Risky Sex can be prevented with PrEP and PEP.

Last week, an intriguing news story emerged in Thailand about a female student who was aware of being infected with HIV but engaged in unprotected sex with multiple partners. This has raised significant concerns, prompting many individuals to seek consultation at our clinic for STI tests. PrEP by CWC, in response, has recommendations for those at risk.

Engaging in risky sexual behavior involves having multiple partners, being with someone who has HIV, or being with a partner who lacks knowledge about the history of STIs. HIV prevention measures are advised, including the use of PrEP. According to the US Centers for Disease Control, PrEP can reduce the risk of HIV infection by up to 99% if taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Nevertheless, research indicates that the effectiveness of HIV prevention diminishes if the medication is not taken consistently.

In addition to PrEP, there is PEP (Post-exposure prophylaxis), which can prevent HIV if administered within 72 hours of a risky encounter. However, its efficacy is lower compared to PrEP. Individuals at risk of HIV are therefore encouraged to take PrEP regularly. Moreover, as PrEP and PEP only provide protection against HIV and not other STIs, the use of condoms is always recommended.

For any questions or concerns regarding HIV or STIs, please feel free to contact PrEP by CWC to consult with our doctors. Prior to prescribing PrEP or PEP, our doctors will discuss your concerns, underlying health conditions, and conduct a blood test for your safety.
